We organized a side event at the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), held on 21st March 2025 at the 777 United Nations Plaza, 11th Floor, New York, United States of America.
Discussions focused on dismantling barriers to gender equality in Nigeria that perpetuate the exclusion of women from decision-making and governance. Key strategies highlighted include strategic advocacy and strengthening legal frameworks that support the inclusion of women in governance and protect women from gender-based violence. Emphasis was also placed on involving men and boys in advocacy efforts to end violence against women and girls, as well as championing women’s participation in governance.
Furthermore, advocating for the ratification of the recently adopted African Union Convention on the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls (AUEVAW) will significantly amplify the efforts of NGOs in eliminating violence against women and girls.
