CALL FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO BE EMPLOYED AS AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICE PROVIDER ON GROUNDNUT FARMING IN THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY.
ABOUT US: The Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) is a non-governmental organization with a mission to uphold the dignity of women and other vulnerable persons through capacity building, advocacy, awareness raising, research, and documentation.
CWSI with the support of its development partner, the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development (CAFOD) now calls for applications from suitable qualified persons to be employed to oversee a one-year groundnut Market System Development project scheduled to be implemented in Kuje and Gwagwalada Area Councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
PROJECT DURATION: 1 year.
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full Time.
THE TERMS OF REFERENCE:
- The applicant must possess a minimum qualification of B.Sc. Agricultural science, Agronomy, Crop Science, Agricultural Extension, or a closely related field. Possession of a master’s degree is an advantage.
- Adapt knowledge of agricultural market system development and the management of groundnut value chain.
- Applicant must also possess a minimum of 5 years-experience in Agricultural extension services which must include proven experience in value chain development of groundnut.
- Applicant should have expertise in rendering technical advisory and knowledge on improved agricultural techniques as it relates to/groundnut production. This includes but not limited to advising small holder farmers on the suitable inputs for high yield and gainful return on investment, impart knowledge through practical demonstration on best practices and other support services that leverage increased agricultural production for farmers as well as regenerates the environment.
- Develop and implement strategies for groundnut pre planting, post-harvest, storage, and seed management, focusing on sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on project progress, findings, processes and outcomes.
- Collaborate with project teams and farmers to develop and deliver capacity strengthen training programs for small holder farmers or stakeholders.
- Develop and implement an appropriate training methodology on financial literacy and business management in line with groundnut agro business for smallholder farmers.
- Support the MEAL team to develop monitoring tools to assess the impact and effectiveness of the groundnut economic activities.
- Represent CWSI in various agricultural forum with the local and federal authorities.
- Proven knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, disability inclusion and gender-sensitive approaches in crop production.
- Proficient in written and oral English, with excellent communication and reporting skills. Knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
- Demonstrate competency in Microsoft office package.
- Excellent presentation and writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Extensive knowledge of soil science, irrigation methods, pest management, and climate-resilient agricultural practices applicable to groundnut production or similar crops.
