CWSI Represented At Regional Conference on Strengthening Young Women’s Role in Political Parties and Parliaments

Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) was represented at the Regional Conference on Strengthening Young Women’s Role in Political Parties and Parliaments in West Africa and the Sahel.

The conference featured capacity-building sessions for female leaders and aspiring female politicians, as well as panel discussions on Women’s Political Participation: Realities and Challenges. A key highlight of the event was the Model ECOFEPA session, coordinated by ECOWAS female Parliamentarians (ECOFEPA) with Senator Natasha Hadiza Akpoti-Uduaghan as Guest Speaker.

During the Model ECOFEPA session, participants had the opportunity to interact with ECOWAS Female Parliamentarians, sharing experiences and lessons from their leadership journeys. The discussions and capacity-building activities further strengthened CWSI’s advocacy for women’s representation in politics and decision-making spaces.

It is noteworthy that some of CWSI’s beneficiaries, who had previously contested elections, also participated in this transformational conference. Their participation underscores the organization’s ongoing commitment to building women’s leadership capacities and promoting inclusive governance.

This was jointly organized by ROAJELF, ECOWAS Gender and Development Centre (EGDC), UN Women, UNOWAS, and the EU Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security and Governance (EPSG) Project, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft Fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in partnership with ECOWAS.

CWSI expresses deep appreciation to GIZ, under the EPSG Project, for the invitation to strengthening and advancing female representation in political and decision-making processes across the region.
