HON. J.K CHRISTOPHER AFFIRMS HIS COMMITMENT TO ENDING GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN JOS NORTH

The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Hon. J.K Christopher affirmed his administration’s commitment to ending gender-based violence and advancing women’s course.

The Executive Chairman stated this when a delegation from Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI), Catholic men, women and youth Organizations paid him an advocacy visit in his office today.

Leading the delegation, Samuel Akorokpor, the representative from the Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI), explained that the advocacy, is a component of CWSI’s project, which aims to build the capacity of women and also to end gender based violence and discrimination against women in Panshin, Jos, noting that the project is fully funded by Conrad Hilton Foundation.

He enumerated some forms of violence faced by women and children and calls for the need for the sensitization and promoting gender equality in the society.

Samuel Akorokpor, sought the Executive Chairman’s support and collaboration in combating gender-based violence, aiming to address this critical issue together.

While welcoming the delegation, the Executive Chairman appreciated the efforts of the group for the advocacy on Gender Based Violence and assured the delegation that the state government has domesticated the gender
Based violence law and is working diligently to eradicate the menace.

He said, ” The Governor is not resting on his oars to ensure that gender based violence is nipped in the board. We have a commission that is doing well in that aspect to ensure the fight against gender based violence.”

While observing that women are pivotal to national growth and require necessary supports to enable them contribute their quota to the nation’s socio-economic advancement, he explained that his administration is positively inclined towards promoting the interest of women and ensuring their protection.
