As part of its commitment to advancing inclusive development and reducing the vulnerability of marginalized groups, CWSI, in partnership with CAFOD and with support from CBM Global, distributed livelihood tools to Persons with Disabilities in the FCT to reduce their vulnerability to violence through economic empowerment.
This strategic intervention aims to address the root causes of economic and sexual violence often faced by persons with disabilities, particularly those living in poverty or engaged in street begging. These vulnerabilities continue to limit their full participation in society and compromise their safety, dignity, and well-being.
During the distribution exercise, the beneficiaries received various livelihood tools tailored to their skills and economic interests. The support was designed not only to create avenues for sustainable income generation but also to promote self-reliance and dignity. Several of the recipients expressed heartfelt appreciation to CWSI and CAFOD, describing the initiative as a “rare gesture” that gives hope and a renewed sense of purpose.
A powerful and inspiring moment came when beneficiaries pledged to empower fellow persons with disabilities who were not reached during this phase of distribution. This act of solidarity reflects the ripple effect of true empowerment—where those who are uplifted also become agents of change within their communities.
This activity aligns with CWSI’s broader objective of promoting disability inclusion, economic empowerment, and protection from gender-based violence. Through ongoing interventions like this, CWSI continues to work toward a society where no one is left behind and where persons with disabilities can live, thrive, and contribute meaningfully without barriers.
“When we economically empower persons with disabilities, we protect their dignity and open the door to inclusive development.” — CWSI
