Project Background

The Action for Better Female Participation in Electoral Processes in Nigeria (ABIPN) project aimed to reduce female apathy toward elections and politics through social media engagement and community mobilization. Funded by the Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, the project led to increased female participation in Nigerian elections by connecting with communities and leveraging social media.

Implemented across five communities in the Federal Capital Territory, the project raised awareness and promoted gender inclusion and good governance in the 2023 electoral process. Over 2,000 individuals—especially young women—were engaged through activities such as advocacy visits and voter mobilization outreaches in communities and universities. These efforts resulted in a significant rise in female voter registration and turnout. The project achieved key milestones, including forming female community cohorts and encouraging commitments from women to vote and support female candidates
