Since 2012, The Catholic Agency For Overseas Development (CAFOD) has supported the Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) in advancing gender equality and governance through the Gender and Governance (G&G) projects in Kogi State, Nigeria. These initiatives address the deeply rooted gender gaps in women’s representation in decision-making and governance roles. CAFOD and CWSI have worked tirelessly to challenge the status quo, amplifying the voices of Kogi women to achieve parity with their male counterparts in leadership.
Through the CAFOD-funded G&G project, Kogi State witnessed unprecedented progress: women were elected to parliamentary seats for the first time, with one in the senate, two in the state assembly, and forty-five in local government councils. This landmark achievement marks a historic increase in women’s representation in Kogi State governance.
