As we celebrate Children’s Day, 2024, with the theme “Every Child, Every Right,” it is crucial to address the ongoing violations of children’s rights in Nigeria, particularly child, Early and forced marriages.

In Niger State, Nigeria , a plan to marry off 100 girls, orphaned by banditry, has sparked public outrage. These girls, without verifiable proof of reaching the legal marriage age of 18, are being subjected to further trauma.

Child marriage leads to severe health risks, including pregnancy complications, high maternal and child mortality, malnutrition, and diseases like Vesico Vaginal Fistula (VVF). It perpetuates poverty and enforces sexual subservience, depriving girls of education and future opportunities.

Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) calls for urgent action to protect girls from violence and discrimination by strengthening legal frameworks that protect girls from early and forced marriages.

Every girl deserves to grow up in a safe, supportive environment where her rights are respected.
Stop Child, Early, and forced Marriages now!
