About Us:

 Centre for Women Studies and Intervention (CWSI) is a non-governmental organization engaged in the socio-economic empowerment of women and girls in Nigeria. Our mission is to uphold the dignity of women and other vulnerable persons through capacity building, advocacy, awareness raising, research, and documentation.

CWSI is now inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of a Gender Desk Officer.

Position Overview

The Gender Desk Officer at CWSI plays a crucial role in advancing gender equality and addressing issues related to Violence against Women and Girls (VAW/G), including Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV). This position is essential for developing and implementing gender-responsive programs, advocating for policy changes, and enhancing the organization’s capacity to address gender issues.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience working on VAW/G issues,   gender programming,  advocacy, and policy engagement,  preferably within an NGO or similar organization.
  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, law, gender studies, or a related field. A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of issues related to gender equality, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, and women’s rights issues.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and compile comprehensive reports.
  • Proficiency in using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other relevant software.
  • Strong advocacy, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in both written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement gender-responsive programs and initiatives in alignment with CWSI’s mission and strategic goals.
  • Conduct gender analysis and research to inform program design and advocacy efforts.
  • Represent CWSI in relevant forums, networks, and partnership meetings on gender issues.
  • Develop communication materials and social media campaigns to raise awareness about gender equality, socio-economic empowerment of women and Girls, disability inclusion and SGBV.
  • Engage with the media to promote CWSI’s interventions and amplify the voices of women and girls.
  • Build relationships with donors and partners to secure resources for CWSI’s gender initiatives.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders working on gender issues.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s gender equality work.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on gender issues.
